A study released by Merkle in 2009 showed that Americans are open to receiving promotional emails as long as the content is “relevant and valuable” to them. It’s likely that your clients and prospects consider their insurance needs “relevant and valuable” and, in fact, they’ll actively seek to sign up to receive these kinds of emails. With this in mind, email can be a powerful communication and marketing tool.
Here are 5 reasons why you should jump on the email marketing bandwagon:
1. It’s Low Cost.
Email marketing is a low- to no-cost way to reach out to your clients more frequently. It saves staff from having to continuously call prospects and clients, while still getting your products and services out there.
MailChimp is free for fewer than 10,000 emails per month, while Constant Contact and AWeber run at about $15-20 per month.
2. It’s Organized.
Imagine taking all those random business cards and yellow sticky notes and putting them in one organized place. Using the Contact List feature of email marketing, you can organize your contacts into groups based on type of relationship (client, staff, personal, etc.) and market to them differently or with more/less frequency.
A little form on your website or Facebook page will gather prospects for you and automatically add those contacts to whichever list you choose. And if a contact should decide to unsubscribe, the contact is removed from the active list (although not deleted).
3. It’s Easy to Set Up.
Programs like those mentioned above are set up to make it relatively simple for you to get started. Most don’t require that you know HTML (although it is helpful for advanced customization) and many offer drag-and-drop functionality for various elements of the email, such as sign-up forms, social media, banner ads, and more.
4. It Integrates with Social Media.
Immediately after sending your campaign, you can also tweet it, post it to Facebook, or share it on LinkedIn, which gets your message out there to more than just your email list. Most programs’ reporting also offers the ability to see what kind of activity your email got over social media as well.
5. You Get Real-Time Results.
Determine the effectiveness of your email marketing by studying real-time statistics. You can see how many people have opened, clicked through on, responded, or unsubscribed from your various campaigns with just a few clicks. Many programs will even send these statistics to you via email.
