LinkedIn is one of the top sites for professional networking online—and it brings a lot of benefits. But not everyone who uses LinkedIn gets the most they can out of it. Here are a few tips for fueling your presence on the site—and generating more business.
Share your articles around. There’s a feature on LinkedIn called “Trending in Your Network.” It marks out articles that are being linked to and shared by numerous people in your network. If you can get your company’s articles listed in the “Trending” category, they’ll show up for everyone in your network—and increase the number of views. You can do this by simply having multiple people in your company pass an article around several times at the same time.
Keep your recommendations current. Recommendations boost your credibility and help you drive business. But if all your recommendations are from several years ago, it’s probably time to update them. Writing a heartfelt recommendation for a client or customer will often inspire others to write one for you, especially if you send the recommendation along with a request.
Join national-level groups. There are hundreds of groups on LinkedIn—if not more—for every industry. Be selective in the ones you join. Look for national-level groups that are specific to your corner of the industry and attract potential customers. As a member, share your articles in the group—and watch your targeted traffic increase.
Give before you get. It’s tempting to use any social media platform as a place to broadcast your marketing messages—and not much more. But that’s not how you build connections. Instead of using LinkedIn for self-promotion, think about the value you bring to the people in your network—in terms of the articles you share, the expert contributions you make to groups, the recommendations you write, and more. The more you give, the more you’ll establish a strong expert reputation that grows your business over time.
LinkedIn can help you get attention for your articles and content, drive traffic, and make connections that can help you grow your business. But it does take some time and effort to get it to work for you. With these tips, you’ll be able to boost your presence—and get more from LinkedIn.
