Think YouTube doesn’t make sense as a marketing tool for wholesale brokers? Think again. There are many different ways you can use the platform to build an audience and educate the insurance agents you work with. Here are just a few ideas to help you get started.
- Webinars are a great way to demonstrate your expertise to insurance agents and highlight the lines of insurance you work in. Start a series of simple webinars where you discuss a single line or product in each presentation, and promote it across all your marketing channels—targeting insurance agents who sell that type of insurance.
Video interviews. You can use video to show the human side of your company. Do a series of interviews of your employees, discussing their areas of expertise, their career histories, and their hobbies, passions, and families. This has the added value of making your company more approachable as well as demonstrating the specialized expertise of your staff.
Funny skits. If you have the talent for it and your employees are up for it, you can write and film amusing skits and scenarios involving your office staff. These skits can both amuse the audience and show scenarios where a certain situation would be covered by insurance. One option is to pick unusual or even outlandish scenarios that actually would be covered under certain lines of insurance you sell. Have fun with it, and educate at the same time.
Highlight your insurance carriers. You can also use video to introduce insurance agents to the various carriers you work with. Discuss the carrier’s history of business with you, interview your contact within the company, and discuss the types of insurance they offer. This is a great way to show insurance agents the connections you have—and the value you can bring to their business.
Vlog. A vlog is a video blog, and it’s a place where you can bring in all of the above ideas, discuss changes to the insurance industry, educate insurance agents, and more. You have a lot of latitude when developing a vlog, and you don’t just have to stick to insurance—you can also bring in other interests, especially if these are interests commonly shared by your target demographic.
There are plenty of ways you can have fun on YouTube and build your business at the same time—these ideas are just the start. Focus on highlighting the insurance expertise you have and the carriers you work with, and don’t be afraid to let your audience get to know you and your staff through video. With these tips, you’re sure to stand out among wholesale brokers.

This is something I’ve been putting off for years. I think a lot of us get caught up in the “it has to be perfect” thought process. I was listening to a podcast today that said the phone in our pocket is all we need. Once we get started it’s just a matter of perfecting it. YouTube really is something that’ll differentiate us from most other insurance agents.
